An adoption anniversary can be a quiet record of your life together. You do not need an exact birth date, an elaborate party or a cat willing to pose in costume. Start with one photograph and one detail you want to remember a year from now.

Download the anniversary timeline. The worksheet has space for arrival, an early moment of comfort, a shared routine and this year's photograph.

Use the date you actually know

If you know the adoption date, use it. If you only know the month or season, say so: “Home since autumn 2024” is more accurate than inventing a day. Keep the birthday and adoption anniversary separate unless you know both.

A rescue document, an early message or the first photo can help reconstruct a timeline. A file's copied or exported date may differ from the date the picture was taken, so check before treating it as proof.

Make a small timeline instead of a highlight reel

Choose three moments with different jobs:

  • Arrival: the first room, carrier or safe hiding place you remember.
  • Belonging: a first shared routine, such as taking the sunny chair beside you.
  • Now: an ordinary habit that makes the current year distinctive.

Use your own memories; there is no need to supply a dramatic “before” picture or infer feelings you could not know. A caption such as “Started sleeping beside the desk in November” says more than a generic claim of transformation.

Turn one memory into a card

The Cat Photo Studio can make a flat photo card in your browser. Add a heading such as “Another year together” and a short specific line: “Still first to find the warm laundry.” Download the file before closing the page.

You can keep the card privately, send it to someone who helped with the adoption or print a copy. Sharing is optional; the anniversary does not need a public audience.

Make next year's photo easy

Choose a familiar resting place rather than a complicated set. Photograph your cat when they are comfortable and stop if they move away. Repeating a location or composition next year can connect the pictures without requiring an identical pose.

Store the selected original with a note identifying the occasion and approximate date if necessary. Keep a second copy in your normal backup system. The worksheet is a memory prompt, not a backup for the photograph itself.
