Pet Portrait Cost: Digital and Hand-Painted Options
Compare pet portrait costs by medium, size and deliverable. Learn which extras to check and how digital files, prints and original paintings differ.

Table of Contents
Pet portrait cost depends first on what you receive: an AI-generated file, a drawing made by a digital artist, a paper print, or an original painting. Compare prices only after you have matched the number of subjects, size, level of customization and delivery. A low starting price for a download is not a quote for a framed commission.
Compare the deliverable before the price
| Route | What you are buying | What to clarify |
|---|---|---|
| AI-generated digital portrait | A generated image file | Credit cost, output dimensions and whether another attempt costs more |
| Artist-drawn digital commission | An artist's digital work | Consultation, revision stages, file sizes and permitted use |
| Printed portrait | A physical reproduction | Paper, image area, crop, frame and delivery |
| Original pencil or painted portrait | The physical original | Medium, support, size, number of cats, schedule and presentation |
“Oil style” can describe the appearance of a digital image. It does not establish that someone applied oil paint to canvas. Ask what is made and what arrives.
Concrete prices from an artist's own price list
The following are advertised examples from Melanie Phillips and Nicholas Beall, read on September 14, 2026. They are one studio's prices in British pounds, not a market average or a dollar conversion. Confirm a personalized quote before booking.
| Listed work | Listed size | Advertised price | Listed deposit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic pencil portrait | 8 × 6 inches | £375 | £200 |
| Classic pencil portrait | 10 × 8 inches | £650 | £200 |
| Traditional oil portrait | 12 × 10 inches | £1,600 | £500 |
| Traditional oil portrait | 16 × 12 inches | £2,600 | £500 |
Their commission information says a background or full scene may cost extra. Confirm the subject count, framing and shipping terms for your order. The studio lists a typical completion window of 6–10 weeks depending on its schedule and the work; that is the studio's estimate, not a delivery promise from Frameow.
The deposit is part of the listed price, rather than an additional price for the same work. On the £375 pencil example, a £200 deposit leaves £175 of the advertised artwork price. On the £1,600 oil example, a £500 deposit leaves £1,100. Those calculations do not include any extra work or costs in a custom quote.
How Frameow's digital pricing differs
Frameow makes cat-only AI digital portraits. The current one-time packages are $10 for 250 credits and $50 for 2,500 credits, valid for 365 days. A subscription is not required to buy a package. Check current pricing and the selected style's credit cost before generating.
For an illustration of credit arithmetic, a style costing 5 credits would use 1/50 of a 250-credit package. That is a nominal allocation of $0.20 from the $10 package, not a standalone twenty-cent checkout price. You pay for the package, and unused credits are not the same thing as cash saved. Style costs can differ.
A new generation consumes credits again. All previews and downloads are watermark-free; payment is not needed to remove a watermark. Physical prints and frames are separate purchases from services you choose.
Make a complete budget
Use this worksheet for each option:
| Budget line | Quote or amount to confirm |
|---|---|
| Artwork, including the agreed cat count | Write the full price and currency |
| Extra composition or background work | Ask whether included |
| Revisions beyond the included stages | Ask for the rule and price |
| Paper print and proof | Include only if needed |
| Frame or mount | Match the artwork's actual dimensions |
| Delivery and any checkout charges | Use the final quote for your destination |
| Deposit already paid | Subtract from the total; do not add twice |
For overseas commissions, compare the amount your payment provider actually charges. A price in pounds is not a fixed dollar price, and a general article cannot predict the final checkout total.
Send an inquiry that can produce a useful quote
“I would like a portrait of one cat, based on my own photo. I am considering an 8 × 10 inch original, with a plain background. Please confirm the medium, total price and currency, deposit, revisions, framing, shipping to my region, and expected completion and arrival dates.”
Change that request to match your project. Include a deadline as a question, not an assumption. If the quote is beyond your budget, ask about a smaller size or a simpler composition before compromising on the feature you actually wanted: a particular artist's work, a physical original, or a digital image you can enjoy immediately after generation.
